"Reliable friends who do what they say are like cool drinks in sweltering heat—refreshing! People who promise things that they never give are like clouds and wind that bring no rain.
"Like the horizons for breadth and the ocean for depth, the understanding of a good leader is broad and deep.
"If you see your enemy hungry, go buy him lunch; if he’s thirsty, bring him a drink. Your generosity will surprise him with goodness, and God will look after you.
"Patient persuasion can break down the strongest resistance and can even convince rulers.
"If you cannot control your anger, you are as helpless as a city without walls, open to attack.
"When you stand before the king, don't try to impress him and pretend to be important. It is better to be asked to take a higher position than to be told to give your place to someone more important.
"God delights in concealing things; scientists delight in discovering things.
"Don’t jump to conclusions—there may be a perfectly good explanation for what you just saw. In the heat of an argument, don’t betray confidences; word is sure to get around, and no one will trust you.
”Finally, hearing good news from a distant land, is like a drink of cold water, when you are dry and thirsty.”
