"Try to stay out of all quarrels, and seek to live a clean and holy life, for one who is not holy will not see the Lord. Guard against turning back from the grace of God. Let no one become like a bitter plant that grows up and causes many troubles with its poison.
"Make sure that no one is immoral or godless like Esau, who traded his birthright as the firstborn son for a single meal. You know that afterward, when he wanted his father’s blessing, he was rejected. It was too late for repentance, even though he begged with bitter tears.
"Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. Those who refused to hear the One who gave the divine message on earth did not escape. How much less shall we escape, then, if we turn away from the One who speaks from heaven!
"His voice that time shook the earth to its foundations; this time—He’s told us this quite plainly—He’ll also rock the heavens: “One last shaking, from top to bottom, stem to stern.” The phrase “one last shaking” means a thorough housecleaning, getting rid of all the historical and religious junk so that the unshakable essentials stand clear and uncluttered.
"Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, because our God is indeed a consuming fire."
