“Let’s hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised, is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not forgetting to gather as a community, as some have forgotten, but encouraging each other, especially as the day of His return approaches.
“Now if we willfully persist in sin after receiving such knowledge of the truth, then there is no sacrifice left for those sins—only the fearful prospect of judgment and a fierce fire that will consume God’s adversaries.
“For we know the God who said, ‘Vengeance belongs to Me—I will repay,’ And, ‘The Lord will judge His people.’ The very worst thing that can happen to a man is to fall into the hands of the living God!
“You shared the sufferings of prisoners, and when all your belongings were seized, you endured your loss gladly, because you knew that you still possessed something much better, which would last forever.
“Do not throw away your trust, for your reward will be great. You must be willing to wait without giving up. After you have done what God wants you to do, God will give you what He promised you.
“And those whose faith has made them good in God’s sight, must live by faith, trusting Him in everything.
“We are not of those people who turn back and are lost. Instead, we have faith to be saved from the punishment of sin.”
