Feelings-----Do they harm or help

# empathy
#desire to help others

Today was an eye opener for me. My 17 year old daughter, wife and I met daughters fiance's parents.

They really know nothing about their (daughter and fiance) relationship. This is where feelings can and often get in the way.

What is the difference between empaths and highly sensitive people?"

Empaths have a low threshold for stimulation; the need for alone time; sensitivity to light, sound, and smell and an aversion to large groups.

Empaths share a highly sensitive person’s love of nature and quiet environments, their desire to help others, and their rich inner life.

However, empaths take the experience of the highly sensitive person much further: Empathy is when we reach our hearts out to others and put ourselves in their shoes.

Empaths are people who’re high on the empathic spectrum and actually feel what is happening in others in their own bodies. As a result, empaths can have incredible compassion for people—but they often get exhausted from feeling “too much” unless they develop strategies to safeguard their sensitivities and develop healthy boundaries.

For emotional empaths to be at ease in a relationship, the traditional paradigm for coupling must be redefined. Most of all, this means asserting your personal space needs--the physical and time limits you set with someone so you don't feel they're on top of you.

What to say to a potential mate: You must define all your needs upfront or be overwhelmed.

Clarify your preferred sleep style: Some never get used to sleeping with others. They need their own sleep space.

Take regular mini-breaks :
Empaths require private downtime to regroup. Even a brief escape prevents emotional overload. Retreat for five minutes into the bathroom with the door shut. Take a stroll around the block. Read in a separate room.

With all this being said, the other parents were not at all sensitive. We as parents must teach our children to be strong, and pursue their life callings.
