Hemp Oil For Inflammation

From the desk of:

Inflammation is a process by which the body's white blood cells (and substances they produce) protect us from infection with foreign organisms, such as bacteria and viruses.

However, in some diseases, like arthritis, the body's defense system -- the immune system -- triggers an inflammatory response when there are no foreign invaders to fight off. In these diseases, called autoimmune diseases, the body's normally protective immune system causes damage to its own tissues. The body responds as if normal tissues are infected or somehow abnormal.

When inflammation occurs, chemicals from the body's white blood cells are released into the blood or affected tissues to protect your body from foreign substances. This release of chemicals increases the blood flow to the area of injury or infection, and may result in redness and warmth. Some of the chemicals cause a leak of fluid into the tissues, resulting in swelling. This protective process may stimulate nerves and cause pain.

What Is Hemp Oil?

In many cases the terms Hemp Oil and CBD Oil are used interchangably.  Both products are legal in all 50 U.S. states and both have healthful properties.  So, let's be a bit more specific about what products these oils really are.

CBD (Cannabidiol) Oil is produced from the stems and flowers of the Cannibis Sativa plant (also known as Hemp).  CBD oil (one of the “cannabis oils”) is a legal product which has been proven to have positive effects for individuals suffering from anxiety, depression, OCD, cancer, MS and many other health disorders.

Hemp(seed) Oil is made from the seeds of the Cannibis Sativa plant.  Generally speaking, hemp oil is considered a food product which can be consumed with salads, smoothies and so on. It confers most of the benefits of consuming raw hemp seeds, which are considered a true super-food due to its rich nutrition.

Another way to differentiate between Hempseed oil and CBD oil is by price.  Hempseed oil is available in many stores for less than $10 for a 16 oz bottle.  CBD oil will cost between 50 and $150 for a 1 oz bottle, depending on the strength of the mixture...the lower the strength, the lower the price.  For example, my company (HB Naturals) sells 3 strengths of CBD oil:  500 mg cbd/bottle ($60), 1,000 mg CBD/bottle ($100), and 2,400 mg CBD/bottle ($150).

How Does Hemp Oil for Inflammation Help Reduce Inflammation & Pain?

One study suggested that the CBD in hemp oil reduces pain by stimulating the adenosine receptor A2A. When this receptor is stimulated, evidence suggests it strongly inhibits the sensation of pain.

Another study published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine found that CBD suppresses neuropathic pain in rodents. Neuropathic pain is a chronic (constant) type of pain that’s often caused by tissue damage.

Since joint pain is often chronic and caused by damaged joints, hemp oil is a perfect match. One scientific review even stated that the “use of cannabis-based medications [like hemp oil] deserves serious consideration to alleviate the suffering of patients due to severe pain.”

How Much Hemp Oil for Inflammation Should I Take?

All of my research indicates that there is no good way to recommend a specific dosage that works for everyone. I suggest that you start with a low CBD concentrate (250 mg to 500 mg) and follow the dosage recommendations on the bottle.  You can then increase or lower the dosage based on results you receive from the product.
