As is the norm in my little corner of the world, nothing quite goes to plan when it comes to writing. I set out with the best intentions. Something meaningful, poignant or maybe even topical if I'm feeling brave. Then, as the phrase so rightly describes, it goes 'pear-shaped' Somewhere you don't want to be, is inside my head.
Don't get wrong, it's not a bad place, it can be quite fun at times, it just seems to have a mind of its own, that's ironic, and has a blatant disregard and no respect when it comes to due process. I mean, one minute I'm thinking about TED talks and the next, I'm playing Stormzy's 'Crown' in there.
Start at the beginning, its a very good place to start. I've mentioned before that I'm a note-taker or scribbler. Thoughts and ideas come a tumbling out and if there's nothing to transfer them onto, they can just disappear, like a dream in the morning. You can see it slipping into the ether and there's nothing you can do about it, unless you're Leonardo DiCaprio, of course.
So, a word of advice, before I cast my web of weirdness. If you make notes, bullet points and such like, make sure you add a little something to give them context, otherwise in a month or two when you come across them, they might not make any sense. I know this to be true, so it is said.
OK, now you're wondering why I'm bringing this up now (while listening to Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene at 432 MHz) It's because I found a piece of paper with the words 'Nick Cave & Kylie Minogue' on. I'm not going to say more than that and I am aware of their duet together in 95', that wasn't why I wrote it down, there was more meaning to this song reference. Oh hum, it'll come and when it does, you will be the first to know, promise.
Here's how it works. I've been trying to work out the connection, of the above mentioned duet to anything, but came up short. Out of nowhere comes the lyric "Heavy is the head that wears the crown" That in itself is quite cool, it refers to those that have great responsibility also carry that as a burden and worry about stuff. Then I thought about it more and did a quick search and the line "Heavy lies the crown" comes up, which in turn, is a 'misquote' of "Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown" which is from Shakespeare's Henry IV Part II. Who knew ? That of course all started with Stormzy. Which might have come from me thinking about Kylie, who did Glastonbury this year, as did Stromzy. Sounds good but its not the truth, that will be revealed to me a later stage, when my mind sees fit.
I will leave before it gets too much for you and you have to go and lie down, clutching your pillow or cushion, thumb in mouth. A few words for you so that your visit hasn't been totally wasted, taken from a recent video I watched. It sort of works with some of the above but it also stands quite happily on its own.
"Be careful what you wish for.
Speak your intention.
Listen to the whispers of the universe.
Trust your instinct about what's important.
If you do all of that, sometimes extraordinary things happen."
